Boost confidence, tailor instruction, improve performance... |
The AP-TIP Mock Exam is a full-length practice test
that prepares both teachers and students for AP Exams.
About the Mock Exam Reading |
The AP-TIP Mock Exam Reading provides practice exams (using previously released AP Exams from the College Board®) to implement training on scoring and allow teachers to score practice exams in a format similar to a College Board AP Reading. Discussion prioritizes how AP-TIP Mock Exam data can be used to drive instruction.
Teachers and students use the scored exams as formative assessment tools: teachers use the data to develop lessons leading into the AP Exam weeks, and students use the scored exams to determine their own strengths and weaknesses. The AP Reading experience is considered the most powerful professional development the College Board offers, and the AP-TIP Mock Exam Reading mirrors this experience.
Benefits of the Mock Exam Reading |
The AP-TIP Mock Exam Reading benefits both teachers and students. The Mock Exam:
- Reflects the full workload of the AP Exam
- Gives the student an idea of the pacing and endurance required for the AP Exam
- Offers each student practice with testing mechanics (use of technology, calculators, formula sheets, multiple choice grids, free response answer booklet formats, etc.)
- Provides information on student strengths and where improvements are needed
- Helps the student formulate a review plan for the AP Exam
- Improves student performance on the AP Exam
- Helps build confidence as students navigate challenging and enriching AP courses
Mock Exam Administration and Scoring |
Teachers will receive specific exam administration instructions upon registration.
In summary, teachers will receive access to administer AP Mock Exams in accordance with the delivery method listed below. Teachers will also receive instructions and template files to create a de-identified label, which will be affixed to each paper exam response booklet. You will have a specified window to administer the AP Mock Exam. Ideally, the exam will be administered in a three-hour setting (although this may not always be the case). Please note that AP Mock Exams may not leave the building with the students.
Teachers bring their students’ completed AP Mock Exams to the AP Mock Exam Reading in accordance with the allowances listed below. Exams are randomly sorted and distributed for scoring, and teachers are trained on College Board's AP Exam scoring standards. Please note that this event prioritizes how to score and how to use the data generated by the Mock Exam---it is possible that not every exam will be scored.
The event is conducted under the supervision of a College Board Reader, Table Leader, or Chief Reader. At the conclusion of the scoring, teachers address content and conceptual issues that emerged and discuss strategies to support student learning.
